Ayurveda, which literally means “The knowledge of Life”, is a 5.000 years old natural healing science from India. Not merely a science of prevention, it is a complete medical science – it aims at healing disease or imbalances within the body. Following healing call of Nature, Ayurveda teaches us how to establish a harmonious and balanced Life.
- Ayurveda believes that the human being is a small model of the Universe. What exist in the human body exist in altered form in the universal body. Everything in Nature are created of same basic material – 5 elements:: Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. When these elements combine they create three governing principles, or doshas. Each of us has a unique proportion of all three forces that shapes our nature.
- Ayurveda describes those three primary life-forces which are essential for our body and mind pattern:: Vata (Wind), Pitta (Fire) and Kapha (Earth). When doshas are imbalanced, they start to be causative forces behind the disease proces.
- Your inner nature is called your constitution or Prakruti. This unique balance of energy was determined at the moment of conception and is with you the rest of your life. It determines what is in harmony with your nature and what will cause you to become out of balance, sick, and diseased. Knowledge of your constitution is essential to developing optimal health. Your constitution determines how you react to various foods, colors, aromas, and general life habits.
- If Vata (Air + Ether) predominates in our nature, we tend to be thin, light, creative, playful, inspired, energetic, enthusiastic, fun, light hearted, bubbly… Vata people have lots of friends, and they like change.
- Pitta dosha (Fire + Water) directs ambitious, passionate and intense people. Pitta people are good leader and excellent manager, they are organized, goal-orientiered and self-confident. Other pitta virtues included intelligency, courage, bravery, those people are focused, perceptive, warm, friendly, disciplined, good speaker…
- If Kapha (Earth + Water) is predominant, we tend to be steady, loving, nurturing, easy-going, sweet, calm, compassionate, gentle… When in balance, Kaphas dislike rocking the boat; they are the peacemakers and the lovers…
- Each of us at least have all three forces, but most of the people have one or two predominate.
For each element, there is a balanced and imbalanced expression.
- Your Vata dosha needs balancing if you find yourself feeling anxious or fearful when stressed, if you are having difficulty getting to sleep or having restless sleep, if your throat or lips are extremely dry, or if you are experiencing forgetfulness. When Vata is out of balance, person may experience pain, nervousness, hyperactive, superficial, moody, insomnia, dry skin, constipation and difficulty focusing.
- When Pitta is disbalanced, person can experience fever, inflammation, angry, jealous, envious, critical, compulsive and irritable… Prone to inflammation (such as arthritis or allergies), digestive disorders and strong menopause symptoms, they also tend to become irritated or very angry when overstressed, they might experience heartburn or acid reflux. When Pitta is unbalanced, you will find yourself overly critical and irritated. Pitta people feel hot all the time, even when others around you are cool or even cold.
- When Kapha is out of balance, person tends to be uninspired, stubborn, attached, controlling, rigid, complacent, lethargic, depressed, and may experience sluggishness, weight gain… Kapha is prone to stiffness, sluggishness, weight gain and metabolic disorders.
According to Ayurveda, health is achieved by restoring our natural state of balance. When we live our life in a state of balance, our energetic shape is strong and stable, and here is no passage for disease. When we live life stronger, faster, stressfulness and out of balance, our energetic shell becomes fragile and disease can occur.
- Ayurvedic treatment aims at balancing the doshas to neutralize the disease proces. Opposite of western medicine, which treats manifestations of disease, Ayurveda assess directly to root cause of all disease.
- Ayurveda offers many tools to support body and mind on its way back to the balance. Following healing call of Nature, Ayurveda use food programs, medicinal herbs, medicated oils, massage, meditation, proper breathing, aromatherapy, sound and color therapies, rejuvenating therapies like selfmassage and other balancing lifestyle programs for loving and nurishing yourself… for keeping yourself, or bringing yourself back, in a stay of balance.
