Ayurveda states that oil is to the body as love is to the soul. We regularly “oleate” our cars and other machines but often forget to “oleate” our bodies.
The way of Ayurveda is the tradition of massage which becomes an important ritual to celebrate the purification of body and mind. Luxuriously relaxing, blissfully comforting, the Abhyanga massage gently applies warm oils to relieve accumulated stress and toxins from the body and mind as well. It is nourishing for all body types.
Utilizing the ayurvedic principles of dosha we accede to anyone individually, using different oils according to proper constitution and dosha (cooling coconut oil for balancing excess pitta or for treating cellulite, warm sesame oil to stimulate circulation for almost always cold vata…) In our practice, we use medicated oils and aromatherapy essential oils as well.

Some of the benefits that can be expected from the regular performance of this pleasant warm oil ritual:
• Increased circulation, especially to nerve endings
• Toning of the muscles and the whole physiology
• Calming for the nerves
• Lubrication of the joints
• Increased mental alertness
• Improved elimination of impurities from the body
• Softer, smoother skin
• Increased levels of stamina through the day
• Better, deeper sleep at night
• Relieves fatigue
• Promotes health in many ways.
VATA: SESAME OIL
Vata nature types tend to be cold, that’s why sesame oil (warm in nature) is best for Vata. Massaging the body with sesame oil quickly improves circulation and promotes healing tissues. Sesame oil has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anticancer effects on the skin.
PITTA: COCONUT OIL
Always hot pitta types enjoy cooling coconut oil! Great for menopausal women experiencing hot flashes.
KAPHA: SAFFLOWER OIL
Kapha nature is heavy, and safflower oil is the lightest of oils, that’s why it especially benefits Kapha.
Ayurveda recommends different base oils and aroma blends depending on what you are attempting to balance. Coconut oil, for example, is an excellent cooling base oil. When combined with a relaxing aroma oil such as lavender, this massage oil will be effective in cooling down the mind, body and emotions. Sweet Orange or Geranium Rose aroma oils are fragrant and relaxing, Basil and Rosemary are vibrant pick-me-ups…
